Energy Storage for Buildings
Battery manufacturer Encell Technology asked Nuvation Energy to provide battery management systems and engineering services to help their customer build energy storage systems for two federal buildings in Southern California. Nuvation Energy provided battery management systems, custom Stack Switchgear with site specific safety features, and a custom controller to interface between the BMS and PCS.
Nuvation Energy’s solutions enabled Encell to deploy their 1.2 Volt Nickel-Iron (NiFe) batteries into energy storage systems that provided a range of demand charge management services. By charging the battery system during off-peak hours and discharging during peak hours, the system reduces both demand and consumption charges. The Encell ESS also includes an intelligent controller that adapts the charging and discharging cycle to daily use patterns and responds to curtailment requests from the utility.
