UL Certifications for Energy Storage
With over one thousand configurable settings, Nuvation Energy’s BMS is one of the most flexible battery management systems in the world. So how does a configurable BMS get certified as functionally safe? When you request the UL 1973 Recognized variant, we will configure the BMS to manage your batteries to manufacturer specifications, lock down those functional safety settings at the factory, and provide a fingerprint of those settings that can be used to verify their correctness.
You will still be able to configure settings that do not impact functional safety. For example, if your PCS requires a certain voltage minimum to remain operational, you can program the BMS to communicate a warning or disconnect the batteries if the voltage drops below that PCS-driven threshold. Or if you’d like to ensure you can obtain a certain number of charge / discharge cycles over the life of the battery, you can dial in the min/max State of Charge (SOC) to increase the cycle count.
