Residential Solar Plus Storage
GS Yuasa chose Nuvation Energy’s Low-Voltage System Assembly and Stack Switchgear (SSG) for their solar plus storage solution installed in Bright Power’s solar photovoltaic (PV) system. The PV system was installed at Via Verde, a residential development located in the Bronx, New York City.
New York City suffered from severe power outages during Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Jonathan Rose Companies and Phipps Houses, the developers of the Via Verde residences, built affordable housing that provided reliable energy to a community that was harshly impacted by the hurricane. They built a 300,000 square foot urban infill, which included Bright Power’s 66 kW building-integrated PV system. The solar system provides affordable energy to residents, cutting annual electricity costs by $13,000.
Nuvation Energy’s integrated battery management solution was obligatory for GS Battery’s energy storage system to pass UL 1973 certification, a requirement for all new energy storage systems being deployed in New York City. The BMS protects the batteries from overcharging and over-discharging, and provides thermal management. Using Nuvation Energy BMS provided such robust battery protection that GS Yuasa doubled their battery warranty from five to ten years for clients who selected to integrate it into their lead-acid energy storage systems.
