Energy Storage Engineering
Second Life Energy Storage
We are one of the more experienced Second Life stationary energy storage engineering companies in the industry. Our project experience includes working with both assembled and disassembled EV packs, and our designs are currently operating in the field.
Energy Storage Augmentation
Adding new batteries to an existing energy storage site and operating them together as a unified system requires specific engineering expertise. We can configure our battery management systems to manage your old and new batteries as a single system, and our engineers can help complete your energy storage augmentation project.
Engineering Design Services
Our product engineering team can create variants of our battery management products, add new functions and algorithms, and develop custom system integration solutions for your unique requirements. Our design services team can also help with ESS component selection, battery stack design, design for UL 1973 certification, and even design a new energy storage product for volume production.
Testimonials
“As one of the most reliable and well-designed battery management systems available today for energy storage, e2’s use of Nuvation Energy’s BMS in our energy storage system supports that worry-free promise that our customers depend on.”
President and CEO of e2 Companies
“Nuvation Energy’s battery management system impressed us with how reliably it managed our batteries. It is also easy to integrate with the range of inverters we support, and has a highly intuitive user interface for configuring the system and viewing battery status information.”
“Between the efforts of POWERSYNC, Nuvation, and Maximo Solar, we developed an energy storage solution capable of providing our clients with a unique and scalable turnkey microgrid for commercial applications.”
President of POWERSYNC Energy Solutions
“Nuvation Energy’s battery management systems and energy controller were easy to integrate, and their engineering team provided ESS designs that significantly reduced time to market.”
“A key requirement was for the BMS to enable remote monitoring of the BESS and to flag any potential issues that would merit a service call, before it impacted system safety or performance. In terms of selecting a replacement BMS, the high configurability of Nuvation BMS made it very easy to integrate into Stalwart’s BESS.”
Nuvation Energy Releases 1500 Volt BMS for Stationery Energy Storage
Nuvation Energy’s new fifth generation battery management system can provide up to a 25% cost per kilowatt-hour ($/kWh) reduction over their fourth generation BMS when used in 1500 Volt stationary energy storage systems. This new BMS also supports the most recent updates to UL1973 (UL 1973:2022).
Video Tour: EVLO 1000 Uses Nuvation Energy’s BMS
EVLO Energy Storage has introduced the EVLO 1000, their biggest, most energy-dense battery yet, which includes Nuvation Energy’s very own battery management systems. This system will be used for applications such as utility grid support and demand charge management.
Meet BESSIE: Nuvation’s Energy Storage System
Many Nuvation employees drive electric vehicles, including to our office, where they plug into an EV charging post. While this started racking up Nuvation’s utility bill, the team decided to build our very own Battery Energy Storage System.
Meet eRex
When we couldn’t find a suitable battery management system for our electric vehicle project, we decided to make one ourselves. With our electronic design experience, we were confident we could build exactly what we needed.
Building a 2 MW Energy Storage System
In the event of a grid power failure, this compact 588 kWh ESS outputs 2 MW of power for 15 minutes. It transitions a wastewater treatment plant in Santa Rosa, CA from grid power to diesel backup generators.
Islas Secas Micro Grid
Nuvation Energy provided battery management solutions for Islas Secas, a 100% solar powered resort off the coast of Panama. We developed a custom energy storage solution controller, as well as a battery management system to expand their battery storage capacity.
Construction of a 1 MW Energy Storage System
Electric Applications chose Nuvation Energy’s battery management system to manage their 960 VDC 1 MW / 1 MWh grid-attached energy storage system. This lead-acid energy storage system was installed by City Utilities in Missouri.
Understanding Contactors
Nuvation Energy’s battery management system can provide power to the contactor coils directly, which strengthens its reliability as a safety system by enabling it to de-energize the contactors without assistance from any additional components.
Battery Packs, Stack, and Modules
Nuvation Energy shares our experience in energy storage system design from the vantage point of the battery management system. In part 1, we present module and stack design approaches that can reduce system costs while meeting power and energy requirements.
UL 1973 Battery Stack Design
Nuvation Energy shares our experience in energy storage system design from the vantage point of the battery management system. In part 2, we share experience working with UL to create UL 1973 Recognized stack level solutions.
Energy Storage System Visibility
Nuvation Energy shares our experience in energy storage system design from the vantage point of the battery management system. In part 3, we explore pain points that energy storage system developers and operators can encounter in the field.
Energy Storage and DER Control Behind the Meter
Principal Software Architect John Chinnick presents a behind-the-meter distributed energy resource (DER) infrastructure that includes solar generation, energy storage, and a utility grid connection serving a commercial or industrial load.
Battery Warranty Tracking for Energy Storage
Nuvation Energy CEO Michael Worry takes a closer look at how energy storage system providers and users can track battery utilization to verify adherence to warranty parameters, and also to proactively identify and resolve problems before they result in battery damage.
